Subject DescriptionHorizon at approximate center of canvas, dark masses of trees at left and right. Diagonal section of sky, upper left to center, brightest at horizon. An Indian on horseback rides toward the viewer's right, while drawing a bow.
ConditionSurface shows considerable oil wrinkles, possible some deterioration of pigment, heavy varnish coat. Conservation by Edmond de Beaumont, 1968.
Infra-redClarifies tonal structure of painting, lighted passages in foreground, large tree trunk, signature with date and arrowhead.
UltraVioletHeavy varnish coat and long vertical crackle, full height of canvas.
