Subject Description: Horizon line at center of canvas. Receding stream at left center of the picture, flanked on either side by tall trees. Lower foliage left and right.
Condition: Canvas mounted on, but detached from plywood. Very badly deteriorated, irregular crackle over entire surface. Considerable cupping of paint. Areas of paint lost at outer edges on all four sides.
Infra-red: Sharpens areas of loss and signature lower right.
UltraViolet: Clarifies the advanced stage of the crackling in the painted surface.
Color: The picture has a noticeably intense color scheme, dominated by a bright yellow-green contrasted with reddish-brown tone in foreground, also noticeable the bright blue-green of the foreground stream.
X-ray: Shows some general condition and technique, broad and formless. The signature is completely lacking in the natural assurance which is otherwise characteristic. It is very small in scale and seems almost to have been deliberately
