Ralph Albert Blakelock, a 19th-century American artist, is known for his moonlight landscapes and quiet paintings of American Indian encampments. As his success grew late in the century, he became mentally ill, was institutionalized, and was adopted as a cause célèbre before dying under suspicious circumstances. Though very prolific in his own right, R.A. Blakelock is now known as one of America’s most forged artists. In this preliminary site on Blakelock’s life and work, information from the Nebraska Blakelock Inventory, Category I —those works with clear provenance— is presented.
